I can’t believe it! I’m actually on sabbatical! I’m in residence at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study in Cambridge, MA September 2024-May 2025. I’m working on The Sound of AI: Audio, Culture, and the Politics of Machine Learning and Tuning Time: A History of Sound and Speed. There’s also a secret bonus text. Do I actually believe I’ll get from two half-finished book drafts to two full book drafts in 2024-5? No. So my actual sabbatical plan is simply to show up and write in the mornings, and whatever happens in the afternoons happens, and we’ll see what things look like in May.
