Mass Comm Process Panic Page
Take three deep breaths. Look at the soothing blue color on this page.
Look at the nice people in hazard suits as they put out the fire.
Now read on about some major sources of student freakout.

1. Q: I didn't understand the reading. What should I do?
A: First, figure out what you "didn't get" about the reading. Try to pick out passages or issues that confuse you. Then, come by our office hours. If that won't work, you can send your prof or TA an email and ask us really specific questions. If you just tell us you "don't understand" the reading, we have to guess what you don't understand. If your question is too complicated to easily answer in an email, we might ask you to come see us.
2. Q: I didn't understand something in lecture.
A: If you're not shy, just raise your hand and ask. We like questions, and chances are if you're not getting it, several other people in the lecture hall have the same question. If you are shy, come up after the lecture and ask the prof, stop by during office hours, or send him an email (again, be specific if you're writing). We want you to understand the course material!
3. Q: I did poorly on my quiz, but I did the reading and came to the lecture. How can I do better?
A: First, remember that we will drop your lowest quiz score. Everyone has a bad day, and some people need to learn our approach. You should really come talk with your prof or your TA during office hours. People do poorly on the quizzes for many different reasons. We can best help you increase your comprehension of the readings by talking with you.
Successful students have problems just like everyone else, they just go to their teachers and find ways to solve their problems.
