A Critical Perspective on Mass Communication IS NOT:

1. "Media appreciation."

2. "I hate the media."

3. "Movie Reviews."

A Critical Perspective on Mass Communication IS ABOUT:

1. Learning to assess the limits of our own knowledge of the media and seeking out new knowledge.

2. Doubting commonly held assumptions about mass communication and learning to ask unexpected questions.

3. Seeking out an understanding of what the media are, how they work, where they come from, and why they do what they do.

4. Considering media in context: thinking about media in relationship to other large-scale cultural phenomena or social institutions.
